![]() ![]() If any opponents get too close, you can always draw your main hand weapon and deal with them in hand to hand combat. If you are aiming to take out the majority of your targets before they see or reach you, the only differences between an Archery and Knight build will be the addition of a bow and arrows. Archer ¶Īn Archery build can be made with minimal alterations to the Knight build, depending on the context in which it is being used. It was example of what is basically a clothing item (with it providing less protection then most pieces of clothing), which equips to same slot as cuirasses. The thief setup should focus on minimising noisy armour pieces while maintaining some level of protected to vulnerable parts of the body, such as the head and neck. I was literally talking about the commonly taken off what one would considered unarmored bandits, black leather vest in game. At least, that's what I remember.Īpples and oranges. Even then, though, usually a knight would have a metal breastplate, with auxillary pieces like arm armor made from leather. Keep in mind this is probably hardened (boiled) leather, not the soft, flexible leather we mostly use today. Actually, I remember seeing a video looking at historical examples of leather armor (I want to say it was Shadiversity), and the conclusion he came to was that leather was actually used more as a replacement for plate armor, not cloth armor like a gambeson (which is how leather armor is usally portrayed in fiction). ![]() After all, a leather vest, in no way is plate, yet equips to same slot as a plate cuirass. Originally posted by Darth Cannabis:I would not be so quick to come to that conclusion as far as slot. As for brigandines, they'd be even more flexible than full plate, of course, but probably a bit more restrictive than mail. Jousting armor is a bit of a different story, as it was intended entirely for sport rather than war. Even then, though, full plate wasn't as restrictive as popular fiction portrays it, with fully armored knights being able to do gymnastics. One could also argue that mail allows one to move freely, therefore making it easier to dodge. This means that a lot of people, myself included, end up with skewed preconceptions about them. Interesting! I suppose it would depend on the hauberk, I'm sure some were probably heavier, but it seems a lot of historical weapons and armor end up being a lot lighter than they are portrayed in popular fiction. It weights about the same as a padded armor irl and its used in conjunction, doesnt do anything against a blunt blow, and padded brigandine is usually worn under it in the 1100s->1600s.
